Hardin Valley has captured roughly a quarter of all new residential building activity in Knox County over the last decade, according to planning figures cited in a Knox County Planning report. That is an unusual concentration of new construction in one part of the county, and it means most of the houses we work on here are newer than what we typically see in Farragut or Powell.
New construction brings its own issue: builder-grade exterior paint. It is applied efficiently and looks good at closing, but it typically needs attention sooner than most owners expect — often within three to seven years depending on sun exposure, not the fifteen-plus years homeowners tend to assume for a “new” house.

Can you paint vinyl siding?
Yes, with the right product and the right color. Vinyl expands and contracts with heat, and going darker than the original color makes the panels absorb more heat, which can warp them. Paint manufacturers produce vinyl-safe color ranges for exactly this reason, and that is what we work from.
My deck boards look bad. Do I need a whole new deck?
Not necessarily, and the boards are not what determines it. What matters is the framing underneath — the joists, the ledger where the deck attaches to the house, and the post connections.
