The brick was cleaned, primed and finished in two coats of exterior paint, and the window trim and shutters were brought down to black for contrast. Painting brick has to be done with a masonry system so the wall can still release moisture — done right, it is the single biggest change you can make to an older home's curb appeal.
Years of sun and water had left the walkway split, cupped and slick. We stripped the old decking, inspected and repaired the framing underneath while it was open, and rebuilt the walking surface in new pressure treated lumber — flat, square and solid the whole way to the slip.
The original deck had failed at the joists, so patching the surface was not an option. New framing went in on proper spacing with galvanized hardware, then fresh decking was screwed down flat. The structure nobody sees is what determines whether a deck still feels solid in ten years.
