What interior painting includes

Interior work is as much about protection and prep as it is about paint. A good interior job should leave you with nothing to clean up and nothing to touch up. Here is what we handle on a typical project:

  • Moving and covering furniture, and masking floors, fixtures, outlets and switch plates
  • Filling nail holes, dents and cracks, then sanding smooth
  • Caulking gaps at trim, baseboard and crown
  • Spot-priming patches, stains and bare drywall so the finish stays even
  • Cutting clean lines at ceilings, corners and trim — no tape lines or bleed-through
  • Two finish coats where the color change or surface calls for it
  • Reinstalling plates and hardware, then a full clean-up and walkthrough

Rooms and surfaces we paint

Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, ceilings, baseboard and crown moulding, interior doors, door casings, window trim, closets, laundry rooms, basements and garages. We also repaint kitchen and bathroom cabinets, which is one of the biggest visual changes you can make to a house without remodeling it.

Choosing colors and sheens

If you already know what you want, great. If you do not, we will talk through it. As a general rule: flat or matte hides imperfections on ceilings and low-traffic walls, eggshell and satin are the workhorses for most living spaces, and semi-gloss belongs on trim, doors, and anywhere that gets scrubbed. Kitchens, bathrooms and mudrooms benefit from a harder, more washable finish.

How long it takes

A single room is often a one-day job. A few connected rooms usually run two to four days. A whole-house interior repaint depends on square footage, ceiling height, how much trim there is, and whether cabinets are included. You will get a realistic schedule with your written estimate, not a vague promise.

Interior painting year round

Unlike exterior work, interior painting is not weather dependent, which makes late fall and winter a good time to book. If you are planning to sell in spring, getting the inside repainted over the winter is the least disruptive way to do it.

Questions

Interior Painting — common questions

Do I need to move my own furniture?

No. We move and cover furniture as part of the job. If you have anything fragile, valuable or sentimental, we would rather you move that yourself for peace of mind.

How many coats of paint will you use?

Two finish coats is standard on walls, and it is what we quote unless the surface only needs one. Big color changes, going light over dark, or covering new drywall may also need a primer coat first.

Can you paint my kitchen cabinets?

Yes. Cabinet painting takes more prep than walls — degreasing, sanding, a bonding primer and a hard finish coat — but done right it changes a kitchen dramatically for a fraction of what new cabinets cost.

Will the smell be bad? Can I stay in the house?

Most modern interior paints are low-VOC and the smell is mild and short-lived. You can usually stay in the home. We ventilate as we work and can sequence rooms so you always have somewhere to be.

Do you repair drywall damage before painting?

Yes. Nail holes, dents, small cracks and screw pops get filled and sanded as part of normal prep. Larger holes or water damage we will point out and price separately.
